How does Tinkercad work? What is a Makerspace?

What is a makerspace? Makerspace is a creative and dynamic area where people can invent, build and learn. These spaces have all sorts of technology and tools for students to make and create things. Some spaces include tools such as 3D printers, 3D scanners, a laser etcher, vinyl cutter, sewing machine, Ozobots, Spheros, Sticker makers, and so much more. Some libraries also have makerspace for the general public check it out when you get a chance.

What is Tinkercad? In my Instructional Technology class I had to opportunity to learn about 3D printing and how it can be integrated in to class curriculum. It was my first time creating a 3D model. This was truly an experience!

For class, I had to pick a standard that I would like to teach, so I chose a Social Standard that focused on landmarks. The landmark I chose to create was Big Ben. It took some time to figure out how to create the model using the simple tools on the website. Through the tutorials I was able to create my model and am very proud of it.

We then went to the makerspace and printed out the model (which didn't turn out quite like I expected). Overall the experience has taught me there is a lot of trial and error but sparked my creativity. This has allowed me to explore how something fun can be appropriate and great for students in the classroom.
